Cutting-Edge Technology and Humanistic Education
Since its establishment in 2000, the Department of Applied Science in N.U.K. is dedicated to research development in the areas of Probability Statistics, Combinational Mathematics and Scientific Computing. The current faculty team consists of 9 full-time professors and 7 part-time professors, all with PhD degrees. Since the department's establishment, the faculty had reached an outstanding achievement by consistently gaining 100% approval for grants for their research projects from either the National Science Council or the Ministry of Education. In addition, the total approved budget for the last 3 years reached a great success, topping NT$30 million dollars. To comply with official industrial policies in advancing leading technology development, the department is proactively preparing to establish its graduate school to train the best in Applied Mathematics.
200 Students have demonstrated their appreciation of the department through their devotion and impressive performances both on- and off-campus. Among the first 32 graduates, 26 of them are pursuing graduate degrees in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Information System, Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Epidemiology in national universities. Moreover, the department philosophy focuses on humanistic education. The department is very proud of the great interaction between students and faculty.
In conclusion, invaluable support for students both in academic and personal consulting provided by the department can be attributed to the faculty's enthusiasm in research and teaching, helpful administrative staffs as well as the advanced learning facilities.
