Dual-Focus on academic and research endeavors, take pride in outstanding achievements:

The entire faculty is dedicated to teaching and research efforts. Since the department was established, numerous thesis papers and publications had been accepted by SCI, SSCI, and EI. The department's quest for excellence stands out among those newly established departments. In addition, faculty members are closely involved in both domestic and international academic seminars to stay in touch with mathematics scholars. The department sponsors speech events in special topics by request, providing great opportunities for students to learn more about the overall development directions for mathematics.

The department has an excellent record in research projects sponsored by either the National Science Council or the Ministry of Education. The number of approved projects for the last three years (2002-2004) is 13, 20, and 15 respectively . The approved amount were NT$ 8.07 million, NT$ 10.76 million, and NT$ 10.8 million respectively. As for the total number of approved projects or the average number of approved projects per faculty member, the Department of Applied Mathematics topped the record among all departments in NUK and is highly competitive among mathematics departments from other prominent universities in Taiwan.
